Innovation and technical leadership

What We Do

Our consultancy de-risks your decision making. Our design and manufacturing capability delivers effective casting solutions.

Achieving defect-free castings repeatedly and delivering on time, every time, is a complex undertaking. Our combination of consultancy, impeccable technical control and proven manufacturing capability, has mastered this process.

As the only UK casting foundry that specialises in high integrity castings with sand, gravity and low pressure casting alongside CNC machining, metallurgic and heat treatment expertise, we are able to simplify development whilst minimising costs. We’re also able to combine elements of each diecasting process. For example, for complex components we can manufacture and perfect prototypes using sandcasting and complete the production run using gravity or low pressure diecasting.

Concepting

Collaborative Concepting

Collaboration is at the heart of how Sarginsons have become a leader in casting technology and consultancy. Our collaborative networks begin internally with our world class engineers and extend globally through the many academic and research institutions with which we have built strong partnerships. This is one of the reasons why we are able to provide effective solutions to any casting problems.

Design for Manufacture (DFM)

The principles of DFM are the foundation of our design and manufacturing capabilities. Our diligence in following these principles eliminates the need for costly, secondary manufacturing processes and supports our clients at every stage from concept to production.

Design
Prototyping

Prototyping

The principle of prototyping is to translate ideas and designs into a physical object which can then be analysed for design and production flaws before it is amended and the process is repeated. An iterative process, our rapid prototyping reduces the time to take a product to market by refining designs quickly and the benefits to our clients can be measured in reduced cost and increased functionality.

Sandcasting

Sandcasting is one of the oldest known casting processes and we use a mechanised carousel casting unit to produces production quantities, small batches and prototypes. The low tooling cost, versatility and speed of sandcasting together with its suitability for single, small or large production quantities, means it is ideal for the production of prototypes and sample castings, allowing you to assemble a new product for test evaluation prior to production quantities being produced or expensive gravity, low pressure or high pressure tooling being manufactured.

Low Pressure Diecasting

Low Pressure Diecasting

With lower energy and post-casting finishing costs, as well as increased yield rates and cycle times, low pressure diecasting offers considerable commercial benefits. The process also provides exceptional casting integrity, thin wall sections and excellent surface finishes. With high-speed production, dimensional stability and simplified assembly, low pressure diecasting is the ideal solution for those looking for premium quality products at relatively low unit costs.

We are the most technically advanced low pressure diecaster in the UK, and our low pressure machinery is among the most technologically advanced in the world. With the ability to manufacture a range of components, we’re market leaders in the development of ingenious, customer-specific solutions.

Gravity Diecasting

While delivering the same production, stability and assembly benefits of low pressure diecasting, our range of gravity diecasting machines includes semi-automated tilt and pour, semi and fully-automated hydraulic free standing and conventional mechanically-operated technologies.

We can produce gravity castings up to 1.5 x 1.2 metres. Shot weights range from 0.2 kilogrammes up to 45 kilogrammes, and we use six different aluminium alloy specifications. We manufacture a diverse range of castings including footplates, valve components, safety-critical suspension assemblies, housings and brackets.

CNC Machining

CNC Machining

Sarginsons operates a range of eighteen 5, 4 and 3 axis CNC milling and turning machines providing a range of services from prototypes to volume production. Close tolerance working to the AS9100 aviation quality standard means we offer a quality of work that perfectly complements the rest of our services. CNC engineers and programmers form a vital part of our Design For Manufacture consulting team and contribute to DFMEA meetings on new product introductions.
